Wake writen by Lisa McMann For me wake was like a fresh glass of water, clean refreshing makes you feel better when you get it done. I gave it a 4.5 out of 5 the only thing i felt it needed was a little more depth it just tells you everything and was fairly simple. The tone of the book seemed too be one of struggleing hope that was triumphant.
Oliver G Scheller 1 My opinion on this book is that so far it is great. It explains things clearly and states when there is a change of setting. It provides all the iformation you need to understand this great book.
The setting of this book is a trashy house. The main character lives here with her mother. Her mother is a drunk and just sits around the house and never cleans or helps. I think this will cause tensions to build up between the main character and her mother. This could result in the main character running away or doing something else to her mother. The main character has to clean the house herself and support herself. This puts a lot of stress on her and tires her out. This could result in her having an incident and going into someone's dream when she does not want to.
Dillon L Scheller 1 In Wake, there are a lot of settings. One day they are at their friend's house, and one day they are at school. I thinik these settings could affect the book later because she could get embarrassed by her friend's. Whenever someone is in a dream around her, she is in their dream. She can't get out of it, there's no way to get out until it's over. I also think that maybe if someone has a nightmare, she'll be pulled into it and something bad will happen. Even worse, maybe someone will find out about the special ability she has.
The setting of this novel takes place in Michigan in late 90s to about 2005 when the main character Janie is a senior. Janie at the point I'm in in the book is a 17 year old student at Fieldridge High School. She is a loner mostly, her mother is an alcoholic who is absent from her life, even though they share a household. Janie best friend is a girl named Carrie Brandt. Carrie is also best friends with Jaine's worst enemy, Melinda Jeffers. Melinda is very wealthy and has been picking on Janie for being less fortunate since they were in elementary school. Janie begins to be thrusted into Carrie and Melinda's dreams and starts to find out things she would rather not know about each of them.
Lizzie F Holmes 1 The setting of this novel changes from Janie's reality to dreams, whether they're her own or someone elses. The novel makes it obvious whenever it changes from reality to a dream, which is extremely helpful because it would be hard to follow along with the book if it didn't.
chuan G Mrs.scheler 1 the setting is a 16 year old girl.at night, getting sucked into other people's dreams is getting old. she falls into a gruesome nightmare. she can't tell anybody about what she does.because they'd never believe her. because you need to know where Janie is, dreams or real life, and so you can picture the place in your mind you also know what position she is in, if she gets sucked into a dream in study hall, not a big deal. if she gets to a dream while she is driving, you should know that she was in her car, on the road going back to her house
This is a good book I did not want to put it down. I only read to page 30 but I can tell it will be a great book so I will probably get Gone and Fade. The setting is a little confusing since it skips around a lot like from the library to Janie's house or by the river but it makes since because Janie is traveling through peoples dreams. I hope i can read the book in pieces instead of all at onceMatt D Scheller 1st Hour
This is a good book I did not want to put it down. I only read to page 30 but I can tell it will be a great book so I will probably get Gone and Fade. The setting is a little confusing since it skips around a lot like from the library to Janie's house or by the river but it makes since because Janie is traveling through people’s dreams. I hope I can read the book in pieces instead of all at once.
The setting is unspecific. the best I can make of it is that it is in a rough part of town. I have only read about 30 pages and so far it is mostly in the dreams, at Jeanie's house, and at Carrie's house. I am not honestly sure how the setting will affect the plot, but I am sure it will have a big significance later on in the book.
the book wake is has many settings. it is about a little girl that is growing up and has this special power that lets her go into other peoples dreams. janie is the main character in this book and so far there has been three settings. one was at janies house, another was at carries house which she is her next door neighbors, and the last one was at school. i dont really know how the setting it going to effect the story yet because im only on page 25, but the everytime someone dreams she goes into there dream so the setting charges a lot. janie is getting tired of the sleepless nights from going into peoples dreams. i cant wait to see how this book ends.
The setting of this book would be in the winter and where it happened would be many of places. Like at her own house, school, her friends, and on the train. The setting of this book has a really important role of what's happening. I say this because whenever she gets sucked into others dreams the person is always around her. Like when she was at school she got sucked into one of the people sitting at the table next to her, at her friends she gets sucked into both of their dreams and on the train she's sucked into a business mans.
Wake has a lot of differnt settings they move around form her friends house to her house and then when shes in the dreams she could be anywhere, the football field or many times she was in the woods with carrie. I think thats going to be and important setting because she really wants to no if that is something that has happend to her friend or if its just a nighmare she keeps happening. But i think that its going to turn out to be somethig that really happend to carrie and maybe thats why her parents and so angry maybe thats why her family moved. that could be the reason carrie never talks about it.im defiantly going to keep readig and find out.
I think this book has a lot of different settings, and it makes it confusing at times.. Because you'll be at his house one moment, but then at school the next. But I don't have enough information on the setting to know if it will be important yet. I don't really have an idea of what the moral theme of the story will be because I’m not that far into the book. I think that she should tell someone about her dreams if they are bugging her. Not necessarily her mother, but someone she trusts. But I’m enjoying the book so far, I think it's interesting and fun to read! I'm definitely going to keep reading.
This is a really good book, Its basically about a 17 year old girl named Janie who trys to have as much of a normal life as possible but she cant because when she's by somebody who falls asleep no matter what she is doing she gets sucked in to anybodys dream. One day Janie decided to try to go make friends with the new neighbor Carrie. Carrie and Janie happened to be best friends but when janie was going to go to Carrie's sleepover, but to find out that Janie's arch enemy Melinda would be at the sleepover as well which Janie did'nt like at all.
This is a really good book so far. I am only on page 45 but so far I would recommended it to anyone. The book is about a girl named Janie. She is a teenager with an ability to fall into peoples dreams. The book has many different settings so far but the main one is about high school. The interesting thing about the setting being there is that every person that falls asleep drags her into a dream, and every kid has a different dream and it keeps things interesting.
Alex W. Scheller 4 Wake has many different settings. It starts with a girl named Janie, and she’s at school. The first entry is in 2005 and she is much younger. It is a relapse of incidents that had happened to her before the actual time she is in while she is actually speaking in present time. Janie has the ability to involve herself in other people’s dreams when she is close enough in the room, however, she does not appreciate this gift as a gift, because she does not have as much control over her ability as she would like. This is significant because it sort of foretells what will be taking place in the future of the book.
Dane B. Scheller 4 The book “Wake” shows many settings threw the story. One of the first was a teenage girl at her house. Then it takes the girl to a party at a popular girls house. These settings build on her dreams she has at night. The first setting started the first dreams of her and her mother. These dreams are of her thinking about what things she does with her and what she wants to do with her. The next setting makes the dreams more elaborate with a almost paranoia of how the girls at the party think of her. Then she starts to think of what has happened and what they will do later.
In the book “WAKE” there is a lot of settings that take place. You could be reading about one setting in one sentence; however, in the next sentence you would be reading about a completely different one in the next. For example: one minute she is on a train, then the next she is in the middle of a conference room watching a man panic while giving a presentation. Each setting plays a different role in the book. Every setting is important because you can get an understanding of where she’s at, what its like there, and how its unique from all the other places she has recently been at or has seen. Also the setting is important because wherever she may be, and whoever she may be with, is the deciding factor to where she will be next, and whose dream she will be in.
The setting of Wake is about 6 different places at the beginning of the story. It starts off when Janie is little and she is on a train and suddenly lands in someone elses dream. She walks of the train to find the guy she saw in the dream. She is so scared and she doesnt know why she would be seeing him there. The dreams stop for a while and when shes at a sleepover at her new neighbors house, they start up again. She jumps from dream to dream of the girls that were there. They are very frightening to Janie and she cant seem to figure out what they were about.
Brittany T Scheller 4 There is more than one setting in this book but it basically, so far, takes place in this small town and the two major setting’s are the school and main characters house. It’s about a girl who gets pulled into other people’s dreams she is near by…she has no control over it. She’s about 17 and doesn’t have that great of a life. Her mother’s a washed up drunk and, well so far, there’s no talk of a father. She lives on the poor beat up side of town and has little money. So overall she doesn’t have it that great and she also has to have this hidden “curse”. It’s actually a pretty good book. It’s in 3rd person and I really NEVER read 3rd person books b/c I don’t like them; but I’m actually liking this book! I’m really not sure on any predictions yet…so I really don’t know what this book has to bring..?
Lizzie F Holmes 1st I don't like books that are in 3rd person either, I feel like there's always a lot about the characters that are left out because we can't get inside their minds and know how they really feel about whatever it is that's going on.
This book is about a teenage girl, Janie, who gets sucked into the people around her dreams. The setting of this book is hard to figure out. It changes from Janie's school to her friend’s house to her own house. One of the dreams she gets sucked into is her friend Carrie, which takes place in the woods. I think this setting is important because it gives Janie an insight to what might have happened to Carrie and may impact her later in life. Carrie doesn’t know that Janie can see into her dreams and Janie is afraid of what Carries dream means. She doesn’t want to tell Carrie because she doesn’t want to lose a friend.
Lizzie F Holmes 1st You used really good word choice to describe what's going on in this book, and I also liked how you focused on Carrie's part in the story as well as Janie's. I agree that the setting is really hard to figure out, we know their location but not exactly where they are at any given time in the book. I have a feeling that this will change throughout the book, though.
"WAKE" Takes Place in Michigan. It starts off with a 6th grade girl named Jenie that cant seem to keep her self out of others dreams. She hasnt learned how to pull herself out of these crazy dreams yet. Crazy dreams, like, a boy being naked at a football game, a bussiness man in his underwear, and also got into her friends dreams at her new neighbor Carries' house. I havent got that far in the book ,but i do know Jenies mom is a alcoholic in a dirty home also where Jenie get into her Moms dreams... The setting allows Jenie to be around people and that gives the books to tell more dreams.
Wake takes place in many places but the main place is in a samll town in Michigan. Janie is the main character in wake, at the age of 13 she had many flashbacks about crazy things mostly sexually dreams. In her school she was called white trash because she was poor and never bought new things. She met a gir name Carrie who was her front naighbor, they became very good friends throught out the few pages of the book. At the age of 16 Janie was working already in a nursing home, she was still very good friends with Carrie and still having those crazy dreams. In wake as i read on i think she's still going to have all those crazy dream she has and in one part i think she is going to figure out that she is lasbian because at age 13 she would be having all these dreams about her friend kissing amother girl.
The setting of "wake" takes place in 6 different places in the book. This book starts off with the main character called Jennie. She is 13 years old. Jennie does not have that great of a life. Her mother is an alcoholic and does not care about Jennie and all she does is sleep. Jennie also had it rough in school. Kids made fun of her and calling her "white trash". A while in the book Jennie is happy that a new girl names Carrie her age will move next to her. By the age of 16 Jennie is begging to have some weird dreams and she also lands in others people dreams, whichs freaks her out.. I have not gotten very far in this book, but what I have read so far..it is a pretty good book. What i predict what will happen next would be that she will land in her mother’s dream and then she will find something out that she never should have found out.
Mackenzie O Holmes 4th Hour I didn't even think about your prediction and I now that you said it I'm actually thinking that will happen now. It is a good book and I hope it gets better.
Mitch M. Mrs. Scheller 6th Hi everybody, I’m reading this book called wake. Now I absolute hate reading books but this one has my attention. So I read the first chapter and so far I got that there is a girl named jenie that live in a south side trailer park in Michigan. This effects the whole story and how you read because you think of a trailer park girl with a drunk for a mom, I have a feeling that this will come into play latter is the story. I made the prediction that her mom is an alcoholic because every part she is in, she’s ether passed out, or hammered…… thanks for reading PEASE.
The book Wake is somewhat complicated. The settings are everywhere. First, Janie, the main character, is in the library, she starts to fall asleep, and drifts into the boy (from across the rooms) dream. Besides that, the time and places are always changing, one minute she’s in reality, the next the sleep deprived girl is falling into another dream. For instance, there’s a dream about a football game, a business man nervous in front of coworkers, plenty of awkward dreams around friends, a topsy turby dream her mom had, her best friend Carries reoccurring nightmare, and a former WW2 veteran having dreadful memories of the past. The setting may be like this to mainly add to the story to make it not so boring, and to tell about the past and how long this dream thing has lasted.
Tyler W. Scheller 6th In my opinion the setting of Wake is in the dreams of people around a girl named Janie, and the dreams occur at different times of the day and different places she is at. But the dreams bring her to different settings in the people’s thoughts. Some of the different places where she has her dreams are at her home, on a bus, and at a friend’s house, just to name a few. In one of her dreams that she had at her friend’s house was that her friend’s brother was drowning in a river and Janie could not help him so he got ate by a shark. That was one of the setting of one her dreams.
Quoc N. Mrs.Scheler 1st In wake, there are many settings, all i know so far is like about the times she growing up and she has a power that she can fall to peoples dream. In the story it tell the specific days and times things are happen, i remembered that peoples in her school making fun of her and calling her ''white trash'' i think most thing in the story will be about how she land to others people dreams and i think that she will know something really important from her mother or her friends.
Tiffany M Mrs. Scheler 1st I'm really enjoying Wake. It is a great book with a wonderful storyline. Right now I'm at a part where Janis starts to be able to control her dreams, but she still cant control others. Its very suspenseful! Janie is such a good character for the book. You can really feel what she goes through. I couldn't put it down. From page one to where I'm at right now, I never wanted to stop. Every chapter brings a new surprise. You never known whats going to happen and that's the best kind of book there is.
Lizzie F Holmes 1st The main characters in Wake are Janie, Carrie and Cabel. Janie and Carrie are best friends, while Cabel was just introduced and now he's the only one that knows about Janie's secret. Most of the characters were described using direct characterization, but there have been several times where you can infer certain things about the characters from what the author said. Janie was said to be poor, and that her classmates would make fun of her and call her white trash when she was young. Neither Carrie's or Cabel's looks haven't been described, but by reading you can tell what kind of personality the both of them have.
chuan G Mrs.Scheler 1st Janie: I found her to be really immature. Always cussing and rolling her eyes, drinking under age, having irrational swells of emotion. I didn't find her to be the least bit developed as a character Anyway. Janie's mother (if you can even call her that, she could care less about her own daughter) is a drunkard, and therefore Janie has also aquired a taste for liquor. And Cabel's mom left him, his dad not much better, being an abusive jerkface who passed away, leaving Cabel all alone.
Tiffany McBain Mrs.Scheler 1st hour In Wake you have your typical teenager Janie. Although Janie grew up in a tough home and is usually called "white trash", she is a smart and understanding person. She defends people who also have it hard and get made fun of. Melinda on the other hand is a rich, popular girl who thinks shes the best and number one. She also has a crush on Janies new neighbor Carrie. Carries a sweet African American that lives right next door to Janie. She may have made some bad choices, but she truly is a good friend. Janies mother is ,basically, an alcoholic.Nothing can really explain her more than that. She drinks every morning, afternoon, evening, and even late at night. Shes defiantly not the type of mother that you would want.Thats all the characters that I know of right now in the story.
Dillon L Scheller 1 The main characters I think in the story are Janie, Carrie, and Melinda. In the story, Janie is kind of an awkward person. She also stands out a lot because she's different. What people don't know is how freaked out she is on the inside. She hopes that no one ever finds out about the ability she has. Carrie is a nice, out-going type of person. She treats people the way she would like to be treated. Sometimes I think she is stuck between picking between Janie or Melinda. Melinda is very mean to Janie, even though she has no reason to be mean to her. She is also stuck up about herself. Sometimes I think Melinda is just jealous.
Oliver G. Scheller 1 So far this book is great and very interesting.Janie has had many weird experiences. She gets sucked into bad dreams at the worst moment.Carrie and Janie are still friends but Melinda kinda took her own road.Janie has been working in a hospital for the elderly. Her favorite is Miss Stubin because they spend time the most. This book has come with many surprices.Going like it goes this book will get better and better.
In the book wake the main character is a young girl named janie. A direct characerization for janie weird because in the book it talks about her being weird. A indirect characterization is that she she is poor because in the beginning it says she has old raggy clothes that looks like she got it from goodwill. Also janie's mom doesnt really care for her because it say that her mom only buys alcohol for her and not food. But janie saved up all her money from her job and bought a car.Her only friend is her next door neighbor.
Jordan S Scheller 2 The main characters so far in the story are Janie, Carrie, and Melinda. Janie, the main character gets sucked into everyone’s dreams. She knows things that probably she shouldn't know at all. Melinda is a really hateful person towards Janie; she made fun of her bra right to her face. I feel like she might be hiding something too. Carrie seems like a really sweet girl that tries to be friends with both Melinda and Janie even though they're enemies. But I also feel like Carrie is hiding something important because of the dreams she's having.
Blake C 2nd Mrs. Scheller The main character in this book is Janie. She has a hard life. She is a hard worker. She is pretty quiet. She tries to work as much as she can to go to college. I think that means she wants to get a good education and get out of the bad situation she has been put in. Janie's mother is a drunkard. She cares more about alcohol and dinking than she does her own daughter. Carrie is Janie's best friend. Her and Janie have been friends ever since Carrie moved next to Janie. Carrie is friends with a girl that hates Janie and everything about her.
The main charaters of this book are Janie and Carrie. They are best friends and next door neighbors. Janie is kind of werid because anytime somebody near her has a dream she gets stuck into it. She is a nice girl but she kind of quite. Melinda is also one of the main charcters, shes the mean rich girl and she makes fun of janie a lot.Like when they were having a sleepover she was making fun of her bra. After Janie was in Melindas dream i think thats she hiding the facts that she like girls too.Carrie is the one thats stuck between Melinda and Janie because they dont like each other but she friends with both of them.
Morganne H Holmes 2 So far this book is getting better / stranger by the page. As Janie was sleeping at Carrie's sleep-over when Janie get sucked into Melinda's dream about her and Carrie in a classroom, but the dream kept getting weirder and weirder by the minute when Melinda dreams about getting to kiss Carrie in the middle of class, and as the dream kept getting more intense Janie tried as hard as she could to get out of the dream so before she became paralyzed from being in the dream she kicks Melinda to try and wake her up so Janie wouldnt have to be in the dream anymore but when janie is able to fall back asleep melinda leaves so she doesnt feel awkward int eh morning.
Donica H. Holmes 2 The main characters are Janie, Carrie, and Melinda. They all have a sleepover and Janie gets caught in Melinda's and Carrie's dreams. When she gets in their dreams, they start getting scared and they can't wake up. As Janie gets more and more into their dreams, its starting to make her paralyzed so she has to wake them up before she becomes paralyzed forever. Melinda is one of those rich and preppy school girls and she dislikes Janie. She's always mean to her and calls her white trash. Janie is one of those gils who doesn't really care what anybody thinks of her and she doesn't know why Melinda doesn't like her. She tries to make friends but people just don't like her. Carrie is the new girl on the block who can be friends with almost anybody. Carrie tries to get Melinda to like her but it doesn't really work so she just tries to make sure they all get along.
This book takes place In jaime's hometown. Jaime has a huge secret. She hasn't even told her bestfriends. In the begging of the book she has a sleepover. When her friends fall asleep, Jaimes falls Carrie's dream. First a Wooded area where a random boy is drowning. She brutally woke up from her friends nightmare and fell into melinda's. Melinda was in a classroom and stands up and starts kissing some random person, which later turns out to be Carrie. Jaime wakes Melinda up and they both go to a new dream. Melinda is laying on her bed and Carrie climbs in her window completely naked.
Mackenzie O'Brien Holmes 4th Hour The main characters so far in Wake are Janie, her best friend Carrie, Carrie's best friend Melinda, and also a boy named Cabel becomes an important person to Janie. Janie is a normal girl with a weird gift, if you could even call it a gift. Her mother has never really been there for her or even care about her, so she has learned to basically live on her own. Her neighbor Carrie becomes her best friend and she is very nice. When Janie gets sucked in her dream, she sees a different side of Janie than she has seen before. This side of her shows that she has lost something or someone. Carrie's best friend Melinda is very mean and doesn't like Janie and calls her "white trash."
Alex W. Scheller 4 Janie, Carie, Melinda, and Stu are the main characters in this book. Janie is sort of forced to always be there for people because she is cursed with a secret. Carie is very popular and rich but is a non judgmental person because she is alwys hanging out with Janie who is actually poor and very unpopular. Melinda is very rude and judgmental but very rich, and Stu is very caring because he is always there for Janie and accepts her secret. He is also very mysterious and has secrets of his own.
Kelly s. Scheller 4 There are a few different characters in the book I am reading. First of all the main character is Janie, she is tall, with dirty blonde hair. Janie is an outcast, doesn’t have nice clothes, etc. Another character is her bestfreind, Carrie, who is extremely nice and is always there for Janie no matter what anyone says. Melinda is one of carries friends and is a very ignorant snobby rich girl. One of the last main characters in the book is cable. He comes from a bad area in town, isn’t the most popular, and isn’t clean either. He has a rough life, and Janie seeks an interest in him later on. There are some other characters in the story but those are just the main ones.
Morganne h. I defiantly think the book is getting better each page you read. I also agree with you that as the dreams keep coming the intensity is increasing greatly. Especial depending on whichever type of dream it is, (nightmare, happy, etc) and that the dreams are a little weird at times as well.
Jordan s. I also agree with you when you said that Melinda might be hiding sometime too. Maybe that’s why she has such anger and hate toward Janie and everyone else. Carrie is a very sweet and kind person to everyone, and I think that contributes to the way Melinda treats Janie also.
Alex W. Scheller 4 I agree with Morganne H. This book is very strange, but also very interesting. There are a lot of parts that were so weird and unpredictible that it kind of keeps me captivated. Every time I turn a page I want to keep reading. This book is really really good so far.
More characters are being added to the story. Which means more dreams, and more interesting facts about the characters that they usually wouldn't tell someone. For example Melinda ,one of the main characters , keeps having dreams about her friend Carrie that Janie keeps getting dragged into. This makes Janie suspicious of Melinda liking girls. I'm not far in the book ,but there is just Janie, Janie's mom, Melinda, Carrie in the part that I have read so far. I hope they have more to have different looks. because it is showing pretty much the same dreams of Melinda liking Carrie ,i want to see more exciting dreams . and if Janie ever has her own dreams.
I agree with Jordan S. The way that Melinda acts toward Janie is sort of questionable considering Janie never did anything wrong or vindictive to her. Melinda has always been opposed to liking Janie since the start when she found out her best friend Carie liked her and she was poor.
Quoc N Mrs. scheller 1st The main characters in the story are Janie,Carrie and Melinda. Janie's family not so wealthy, and she don't like being around with others rich girls, Janie doesnt understand why she can't stay out of people's dreams, and Carrie is Janie's new friend that live next to her house, Carrie really nice to Janie. Melinda one of the main characters, she kind of mean to Janie, and i think she gets jealous when Janie and Carrie being close together, it seem like Melinda liking Carrie because Melinda keeps dreaming about Carrie, i like this book, it got me into it.
Samantha B. Mrs.Scheller 6th There are many characters in the book right now. There’s Janie, her mom, Carrie, Stu, Cabel and Melinda. More characters always come up though from participating in others dreams all the time. I can tell right now that Janie is very independent, she paid for her own car and the bill for the accident that followed getting her car, her mom is a drunk and does practically nothing as you can see. Also, Melinda hates Janie, but that’s completely obvious, but I’m not too sure why, I mean, Melinda is friends with Carrie and she’s also poor, it’s kind of hypocritical. Cabel is awesome, he’s changed a lot, he went from being all loner-ish to girls drooling all over him, you can tell from the book right now that he really like Janie, but is terrified for her.
Melissa T. Scheller 6th There are several main character in the book Wake, but the main character that pops more is Janie. Janie so far tells us how she is living. She tells us clearly that she is a very poor girl and at her school she is known for being thr poor girl, but as she gets older, she's starting to let go of all that. Janie has a bestfriend name Carrie,Janie has said that Carrie is different because she actually didn't judge Jamie. So far what i know, Janie day dreams a lot and has a lot of flashbacks about other people's dreams, which is not good because she loses focous and starts having these segers.
Adriana C Scheller 6 So far in the book Wake, the setting is in a rough part of town. The main character Janie lives with her mom who always gets drunk. The setting jumps from Janie’s life into someone else’s dream. In the beginning it takes place when she was little and when she started getting warped into other people’s dreams. The first entry was when she was on a train with her mom and got warped into a business man’s dream that fell asleep on the train. Another time she got warped into one of her friends dream when she was at a sleepover. Jannie doesn’t know why this is happening to her.
Samantha B. Mrs.Scheller 6th I completely agree with Alex W. and Jordan S. I mean its really hypocritical for Melinda to do that, Melinda and Carrie have been close friends for awhile it seems like and Melinda just despises poor Janie. Janie and Carrie are both poor, its just no fair to do that.
Mitch m. Mrs. Scheller 6th Hello, it’s me. Right now, there is main character named Janie, she is the girl that falls into other people’s dreams. There are other characters in this story like Carrie who is new in town and is friends with Janie, and Melinda, the rich girl who also hangs out with Janie and Carrie. Janie lives in the poor side of town and doesn’t really like hanging out with the rich girls, Carrie is an average girl and has a bad passed. Melinda is a very preppy girl with lots of friends and dosent really care about anything but her self.
So far in the book the main character's are Janie, Carrie, and Melinda. Janie is the first character we meet in the book and she goes into other's dreams if they fall asleep close to her, also her family does not have alot of money. Next is Melinda, she is wealthy and is a bully to Janie for no reason at all. Carrie is the other character we hear about and her family is wealthy but unlike Melinda she is very nice to Janie.
The main characters in the book wake are Janie, Carrie and Melinda. Janie is tall, with dirty blonde hair. Janie is an outcast, doesn’t have nice clothes. While Carrie and Melinda both come from a wealthy family.Another characterist about Janie would be that she has these dreams where she can't stay out of peoples dreams.Anyways Carrie is really nice to Janie. I like this book so far. It shows the same dreams of Melinda liking Carrie.
Samantha B. Mrs.Scheller 6th I agree with Morganne, this book is definitely getting extremely better and stranger, I mean it was awesome to begin with but wow, it’s getting good. Eh, I’m not sure if that’s the reason why Melinda left though; it said in the book that usually people don’t notice her there in the dream with them. And, it would be kind of weird if she knew Janie saw what she dreamed, but no one knows her secret yet.
the main characters in this boock are janie, melinda, and carrie... janie is not a wealthy girl like melinda and she hates being around rich girls because she feels like shes not worth anything compared to the rest of the girls in her school that make fun of janie for how she dresses and how she looks....melinda and janie dont get a long at all i think melinda is just jealous because janie and carrie get a long and she doesnt want her friend to hang with janie because melinda hates her... this is a really interesting book i cant wait to see what happens next!!!!
Adriana C. Scheller 6 The main characters in this book are Janie, her friend Melinda and Carrie. Janie and her mom aren’t so wealthy. She works a lot of hours at a retirement home to buy the stuff she needs because her moms welfare money usually goes toward rent and booze. Carrie is Janie’s neighbor and also her best friend. Carrie’s parents always yell at her. Melinda is rich and Carrie doesn’t know why Janie still talks to her because she’s mean to her. Many other characters are popping up in the book like Stu, who is Carrie’s older boyfriend and Cabel who is an outcast.
I agree with Jordan S. The way that Melinda acts toward Janie is sort of questionable considering Janie never did anything wrong or vindictive to her. I think they both act strange to each other. I also predict that either something terrible might happen.
Mitch m. Mrs.scheller 6th I completely agree with this Mitch dude, whoever he is, he’s a genius. I also think that Melinda doesn’t care because at the bus stop, she was making fun of the one dude for not having cool, up-to date clothes. Janie defends him because she used to go through the same thing.
Adriana C. Scheller 6 I agree with Vanessa T. I don’t like how Melinda treats Janie. She shouldn’t treat her like that just because she is wealthier than Janie. I think Melinda is jealous because Carrie and Janie were becoming good friends. Janie hasn’t done anything to Melinda so I hope later on she realizes that.
Mitch m. Mrs.scheller 6th I’m with Tyler w. Melinda and carries families both have some money, except Melinda has a completely different attitude towards people, this makes her judgmental and is hard to get along with. She and Janie had some rough times in the past but they have been getting alone ever since Carrie came alone.
I agree with Morgann H, THis book is gettting better and better as i read it! I also heard that they will make a movie out of that so that should be fun. And one other thing i want to say is that Melinda should not base people of looks, and more likly look at someones personality.
I agree one hundred percent with Samantha B. comment because she agrees with both Alex W. and Jordan S. and I think they are right because Melinda is being strange by saying she does not like “poor people” when Carrie is just as poor and troubled as Janie. It’s unfair for Melinda to do that to Janie and I think both Carrie and Janie should stop talking to Melinda.
chuan G scheller 1st hour Janie discovered this ability at 8 years old, when she was able to witness a businessman’s dream of him giving a presentation in his underwear. From that day on, she is somewhat cursed by the long struggle and suffering of being part of others’ dreams and nightmares. By taking part in others’ dreams, she can see their fears and/or desires。This leads to Janie finding out the secrets of the people around her.but she cannot reveal them because they might think she is crazy. .With the help of Miss Stubin at the Heather Home, Janie discovers that she is a dream catcher and has the power to help others resolve the dreams which are haunting them. The climax of the story comes as Cabel, along with a number of other Fieldridge students and parents, are imprisoned on narcotics charges. Janie witnesses a dream that helps the police and allows her to free her friends.
One of the internal conflicts in this book is with Janie. She has the power to go into others dreams and she is always fighting her mind so she won't fall into someones dreams. She is trying to overcome her curse because it is very distracting and it gets in the way of her job and school. She knows she won't be able to make it through college with it so she is trying to train herself to control it. Because of this at this point of he book the tone is very determined. She has her mind set on controlling her power.
I think Janie has an internal conflict. Her ability to get sucked into people's dreams are crazy. Her and Cabel are the only ones who know about her dreams. I think this is an internal conflict because she doesn't tell people she has that ability. I think the conflict will be resolved because she is able to control her dreams so now she can pull herself out of other people's dreams. The mood of this novel I think could be mysterious and interesting because it makes you want to keep on reading. It also makes you have hope that she finally will stop being sucked into people's dreams
DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU ARE NOT PAST PAGE 85 BECAUSE OF “LEAKS.” I was debating if Janie's dreams were an external conflict or an internal conflict so I decided they can be both. One external conflict in Wake is when Janie is fighting with Cabel when she is trying to explain her dream powers to him. One internal conflict is when Janie is in some ones dream and they want Janie to help them. Like from the beginning of the book when the naked football player or in Cabel’s nightmare about the monster man.
Kelly s. Scheller 4 In the book wake, an internal conflict would have to be man vs. self. Janie has the problem where she in dragged into other people’s dreams when clearly she doesn’t want to be. This really affects her, and the things she is able to do. If she puts herself in too dangerous of a situation, something bad could happen. Later on, I don’t think this problem will be resolved. It might be controlled a little in the end, but I defiantly don’t think everything will be solved. The mood and or tone the author has created is somewhat confusing and sympathetic. You’re confused because you are trying to follow each and every dream she gets sucked into, and you feel sympathetic towards Janie because she goes through so much and it doesn’t seem fair.
Response #1 I agree with Dillon l. when he said “I think her dreams will be resolved “in some way. I know she is able to control her dreams as times goes on, although, I don’t think she will be able to completely get a handle around them. Maybe I could be wrong though.
Response #2 I also agree with matt d. when he said that and external conflict would be when Janie is fighting with cable as she is trying to explain her dream problem too him. They fight, and he doesn’t understand, this external conflict would be known as man vs. Man.
The setting of the book Wake, jumps from place to place. It can be detailed as complicated. Janie is a 17 year old who has the canny ability to reside in people's dreams. Her alcoholic mother could care less about what happens in Janie's life, so she has battled this secret by herself. It's happened ever since she was 8 years old. She can't control the place. Sometimes Janie is at home, sometimes at school, and sometimes at her best friend, Carries. More than anything, she is in someone else's dream, experiencing their nightmares and weird fantasies. I don't see the setting being as important as the person and their thoughts/dreams. But, the setting will come into play more when the thoughts/dreams become a threat to certain settings.
Tiffany M. Scheler 1st hour I just finished wake yesterday and I would say out of 10 I give this book a 9. It is truly a great book. From page 1 to page 210 the suspense level was high and I was on the edge of my seat. I never wanted to stop reading! I loved it! I highly recommend it to everyone who loves a good mystery book.
Dillon L Scheller 1 Overall, this book was a really good book. I don't like reading, AT ALL, but this book really made me want to keep on reading. It makes you want to find out more and more about the special ability Janie has. It's good to know that she is getting better at controling other people's dreams so they don't turn out bad. The ending of this book makes you want to read the other book the author has out, called Fade. Maybe this book will still have to do with Janie? Or maybe even someone else? I guess we'll have to read it to find out!
chuan G scheller 1st Janie discovered this ability at 8 years old, when she was able to witness a businessman’s dream of him giving a presentation in his underwear.By taking part in others’ dreams, she can see their fears and desires.but she cannot reveal them because they might think she is crazy. All these incidents become a problem for Janie, especially towards her junior and senior years, because most of the time she cannot control the situation. Her peers, especially Cabel, become suspicious of her strange behavior.Although Cabel helps Janie protect her secret, they are unable to maintain a close relationship due to peer pressures, secrecy, and Cabel's growing reputation as a drug dealer to the wealthy..Cabel, along other Fieldridge students and parents, are imprisoned on narcotics charges. Janie witnesses a dream that helps the police and allows her to free her friends.
Oliver G Sheller. 1st So far this book has been great. It explains everything you need to know and most of all very interesting. This book really does make you read more and more. The things that Janie has gone through and this she confronts. She has to be living with her secret of being able to see people’s dreams. It also affects her because she struggles not to be seen by someone. This author made a great job with telling this story. The things with Janie are getting better and a little help from Mrs. Stubbin. She died but left Janie a little present to help her out with the rest of her life.
Q nguyen Mrs. Scheller 1st Overall the story very interesting, it went smoothly from one topic to another. The story was like about Janie, she has a power that falling to other people dreams. In the book it taken many difference places like home, Janie's friend house, school. Cable, the only one that know about Janie's dream power, Janie trying to explain Cable about her power.I didn't finish the book so i don't know what will happens at the end.
I think that Wake was a really good book. i like how you could really picture the dreams in your and the author was really discriptive.i think this book was really well written and it was fun to read. i think it was good because at sometimes it was kind of sad and you though janie would never be normal. i also really liked how at the end it had cable point of view on things and how he saw everything happening. i amd definatly going to read the next book fade. i would recomand this book to everybody!!!
the whole story of wake is about a girl that is nineteen and she has a special. her power is when ever she is close enough to a sleeping person she will get sucked into their dream.but one person who she really likes is cabel and he believed her about her power.but what janie didnt know was that cabel was an undercover cop, so when he has to hang out with a different girl janie gets mad.but after a while cabel has his boss talk to janie, so janie will finally believe cabel.this may have benn the first book i actually read by my self and it was a good book.
Overall, this book was so good! It was really easy and fun to read. I'm not the type of person to pick out a good book and just start reading, i don't like reading at all. But this book was realistic to me with Janies relationship with Cable, so I enjoyed it. I am really interested in reading her second book, "Fade." I would defiantly give this book a ten out of ten. 1st response: I agree with Dillon L. it defiantly made me want to read more, and want to know more about her dreams, and what’s going to happen later on in the next book, Fade. But I don’t think she will ever get her problem fixed, she might be able to control it better, but not completely fix it. 2nd response: Morgan T, I really like your summary of the story, it gives the reader a good thought of what the book is going to be about. I also like how you put Janie’s mother in the conclusion. Your word choices we’re well put together to! `
I thought thius book was okay. I thought this book was going to be way better than it turned out being. About halfway through the book, I started not caring about it. It was a very easy read. The sentences flowed very smoothly but the story lacked excitement. I will probably end up reading the second and third book because I want to see what happens.
dillon i agree i dont like reading either and this book made me want to keep reading to.i am going to read fade to. and i hope ita about janie and more about her getting better. or it would be cool if someone else had this problem and they could talk about it.
i agree with Q nguyen bacause you could picture every scene because thats how well it was described. it was a very excellent book because i didnt just stay at one place in the whole book.i cant wait to read the next book because i think i would be a very good book to read.
Blake i disagree. I though this was a really good book. i think it was really exciting and fun to fallow. but i agree im going to read the next two because i really want to know how janie ends up. i think there might be another person she finds to be just like her.
i agree with macy because the book is very descriptive and it felt like the scenes were right there in front of you.i also agree because i thought janie wasnt gonna be normal or have any friends. i thought the book was going to be very sad for a while but finally the book turned around and was good.
I think my book, Wake, was an okay book. I didnt like how it was in third person and its ending was cut short and hurried. I personally would not read the next book or any book in this serious. It had this whole drawn out story and then the ending was just this tiny little section. Plus it barely had much of a story line anyways. It was a girl chasing after a guy who was there the whole time really. I dont know, i just personally didnt really like it much. I woudnt suggest it to many.
Mitch m Mrs.sheller 6th I like the way Brittany t put it, I agree when she said she wouldn’t read the next book. I think it would be inappropriate, but, I’m so tempted to read the next one. First ill have to finish the book I’m currently reading. I like how this book was in third person.
In this book, Janie is the main character. She is struggling with a secret that she can’t tell anybody. She can enter dreams and see what the person sleeping can see and experiences all of the same feelings as the people. She falls in love with that boy that learned and mastered how to enter dreams and lucid dream just as well as she did. His name was Cabel. I really liked this book, but I did not appreciate the end. It felt very rushed like there should have been more leading up to the ending. All of a sudden she was mastering her dream “curse/secret” and then she is going to college. It was just kind of a dumb ending, but the book in general was pretty good. :)
I disagree with Macy F. I thought the book was good, but it was not very well written. I did not like the point of view, and I did not like Cabel’s perspective at the end because it kind of drew away from the story. I also couldn’t really picture the dream in my head as well as she says you could.
Kelly s. Scheller 4 I think the book wake is a really good book. I couldn’t put it down. It wasn’t that hard to pick up and catch onto, only at times. Other than that, it was easy to follow, which is great. The sentences flowed well. Since Janie has the ability to get dragged into other people’s dreams you get a first hand description of their dreams, which can be really interesting. Its fun to see everything she’s overcome and all the obstacles she’s faced, and where things are at now and how she controls everything. This book was overall very good, and would recommend it.
I disagree with Blake c though, I thought the book was really good, and it was exciting in the beginning and leading up to the end as well. However, I do agree with him when he said I will read the other books to see what happens, that sounds like a good idea. I agree with macy f. you could really picture each dream Janie was pulled into. Also when she said the book was really fun to read, because it was. Also when she said she liked cables point of view at the end, I liked that too, because it added another perspective to the story.
I agree with Brittany T. I did not like how the book was in third person. I much prefer first person. I thought it was okay though. It really did not have much of a story line, I do wish the author would have elaborated more and went in to far more detail than they did, however, all in all, it was a pretty okay book.
Samantha B. Mrs.Scheller 6th The book WAKE was fantastic; I couldn’t put the book down once I got started. I finished so early that I also finished FADE, the book that comes after WAKE. I suggest you read it; it’s a great follow up the WAKE. Both books are filled with romance, fear, and mystery. WAKE leaves you hanging so you just have to read FADE. I would definitely recommend WAKE (or FADE) to any teenager. I kind of thought it would be kind of like a Twilight book. I mean I first started reading this and I was completely hooked! Plus, I like how the book is written in third person. It was a pretty easy read. I got through this book pretty quickly.
Samantha B. Mrs.Scheller 6th I agree with Q nguyen, it was pretty interesting, some parts were creepy/ weird and others were sweet and awesome. It definitely went smooth, I completely agree with that. Believe me if you finish the book, you’ll be shocked, that’s how I was. Read it, boy!
In the book “Wake” the main character Janie tells her crush Cabel that she has sleeping problem, not the problems where you can’t sleep but where you fall into other peoples dream if you’re in the same room as them. Janie has discovered some secrets that she never knew. She found out that her best friend Carrie had a little brother who drowned at age 4 and how Janie discovered that was by going into the dreams of Carrie. Janie also found out that Cable is an undercover agent working for the cops trying to find out what “Shays” dad is behind. It all made since to her, why he was hanging out with Shay a lot, why people were making rumors about him selling drugs, and why he never showed up at her house that one night.
Mitch m Mrs.scheller 6th hr. Hello, this will be my final post on this book, besides the comments…. That doesn’t really count but oh well. To be very brutally honest, this book wasn’t half bad. I’m not done with it, but im going to assume that in the end, Janie and emo kid hook up and get down…. If ya know what I mean. The book was about this girl named Jamie and her strange ability to and be in other people’s dreams. People dream all kinds of stuff like a guy being naked in the middle of a football game to people with un-godly huge tits to someone drowning over and over again.
in my opinion this book was so good! this book is mostly about this girl name janie who has this thing that she can get in to peoples dreams and while she is in peoples dreams everybody ask her for help but she doesnt know how she can help them. janie falls in love with some guy name cable but she is confuced for a while because in his dreams she sees him killing another guy and him doing grugs and hes with other girls and it made it worast when one of janies friends tells her that cable sleped with another girl and that hes a drug dealer that thats y he has money, a phone, and a car...i would totally read this book again and i cant wait till the movie comes out..
Samantha B. Mrs.Scheller 6th The book was great like Kelly S. said. I couldn’t put the book down as well. The sentences worked together, they had a flowing feeling, and it very descriptive, which is sooo awesome! It was very good! I also disagree with Black C. though, it was an awesome book. The other books are amazing; so far I’ve read FADE and I’m already done with it, I so recommend it!
Adriana C. Scheller 6th hour I think the book Wake was a good book. I don’t usually read this genre of books but I thought it was pretty good. I liked how it was suspenseful and I wanted to keep reading when class was ending. A thing I didn’t like about the book was how it ended. I think the ending was rushed should have been more planned out. I would have also liked to know why she was being sucked into people’s dreams. I would read the next book just to find out what else happens and if it explains why she was being sucked into people’s dreams but otherwise I wouldn’t. 1st response: I agree with Macy F. All of Janie’s dreams were really descriptive and I could picture everything in the book. I also agreed that it was a fun book to read. 2nd response: I also agree with Tiffany M. It was really suspenseful. I would also give it a 9 out of 10. I would recommend it to anyone because I don’t read a lot and I don’t read this type of book but I enjoyed it a lot.
i agree with samantha B this book was interestin had some weird parts and some really cute parts but for the most of the time it was really interesting..i didnt wanted to finish reading this book i never wanted to stop especially in the most interesting parts...
I agree with Macy F. this book is very good, and I also felt that you could picture this very easily. Every time I read a part of Janie’s dream I really felt like as if I were in it. I don’t really think this book is sad, I mean I can’t really feel bad for Janie having this problem but I do think its “cute” how Janie and cable get along.
I disagree with Blake C. about this book just being okay. I really thought it was going to be good and it turned out to be a very good book. The sentences were good and it did lead to excitement in every page of the book. But yes I would also love to read the other books cause I feel they would as well be interesting.
martha A scheller 6th i disagree with blake c i thought this book was really good it was interesting from the biggining till the end. as more u read the most interesting it gets but in some parts it was kinda weird but interesting

For me wake was like a fresh glass of water, clean refreshing makes you feel better when you get it done. I gave it a 4.5 out of 5 the only thing i felt it needed was a little more depth it just tells you everything and was fairly simple.
The tone of the book seemed too be one of struggleing hope that was triumphant.

In Wake, there are a lot of settings.

The setting of this novel changes from Janie's reality to dreams, whether they're her own or someone elses. The novel makes it obvious whenever it changes from reality to a dream, which is extremely helpful because it would be hard to follow along with the book if it didn't.

the setting is a 16 year old girl.at night, getting sucked into other people's dreams is getting old. she falls into a gruesome nightmare. she can't tell anybody about what she does.because they'd never believe her. because you need to know where Janie is, dreams or real life, and so you can picture the place in your mind
you also know what position she is in, if she gets sucked into a dream in study hall, not a big deal. if she gets to a dream while she is driving, you should know that she was in her car, on the road going back to her house

I hope i can read the book in pieces instead of all at onceMatt D

Wake has many different settings.

The book “Wake” shows many settings threw the story.

There is more than one setting in this book but it basically, so far, takes place in this small town and the two major setting’s are the school and main characters house.

I don't like books that are in 3rd person either, I feel like there's always a lot about the characters that are left out because we can't get inside their minds and know how they really feel about whatever it is that's going on.

You used really good word choice to describe what's going on in this book, and I also liked how you focused on Carrie's part in the story as well as Janie's.

Hi everybody, I’m reading this book called wake.

In my opinion the setting of Wake is in the dreams of people around a girl named Janie, and the dreams occur at different times of the day and different places she is at.

In wake, there are many settings, all i know so far is like about the times she growing up and she has a power that she can fall to peoples dream. In the story it tell the specific days and times things are happen, i remembered that peoples in her school making fun of her and calling her ''white trash'' i think most thing in the story will be about how she land to others people dreams and i think that she will know something really important from her mother or her friends.

I'm really enjoying Wake.

The main characters in Wake are Janie, Carrie and Cabel.

Janie: I found her to be really immature. Always cussing and rolling her eyes, drinking under age, having irrational swells of emotion. I didn't find her to be the least bit developed as a character
Anyway. Janie's mother (if you can even call her that, she could care less about her own daughter) is a drunkard, and therefore Janie has also aquired a taste for liquor. And Cabel's mom left him, his dad not much better, being an abusive jerkface who passed away, leaving Cabel all alone.

In Wake you have your typical teenager Janie.

The main characters I think in the story are Janie, Carrie, and Melinda.

The main characters so far in the story are Janie, Carrie, and Melinda.

The main character in this book is Janie.

So far this book is getting better / stranger by the page.

The main characters so far in Wake are Janie, her best friend Carrie, Carrie's best friend Melinda, and also a boy named Cabel becomes an important person to Janie.

Janie, Carie, Melinda, and Stu are the main characters in this book.

There are a few different characters in the book I am reading.

More characters are being added to the story. Which means more dreams, and more interesting facts about the characters that they usually wouldn't tell someone. For
example Melinda ,one of the main characters , keeps having dreams about her friend
Carrie that Janie keeps getting dragged into.

There are many characters in the book right now.

There are several main character in the book Wake, but the main character that pops more is Janie.

So far in the book Wake, the setting is in a rough part of town.

Janie discovered this ability at 8 years old, when she was able to witness a businessman’s dream of him giving a presentation in his underwear.

In the book wake, an internal conflict would have to be man vs.
Response #1
I agree with Dillon l. when he said “I think her dreams will be resolved “in some way. I know she is able to control her dreams as times goes on, although, I don’t think she will be able to completely get a handle around them. Maybe I could be wrong though.

I also agree with matt d. when he said that and external conflict would be when Janie is fighting with cable as she is trying to explain her dream problem too him.

I just finished wake yesterday and I would say out of 10 I give this book a 9. It is truly a great book. From page 1 to page 210 the suspense level was high and I was on the edge of my seat. I never wanted to stop reading! I loved it! I highly recommend it to everyone who loves a good mystery book.

Overall, this book was a really good book.

Janie discovered this ability at 8 years old, when she was able to witness a businessman’s dream of him giving a presentation in his underwear.By taking part in others’ dreams, she can see their fears and desires.but she cannot reveal them because they might think she is crazy.

So far this book has been great.

I like the way Brittany t put it, I agree when she said she wouldn’t read the next book.

I think the book wake is a really good book.

The book WAKE was fantastic; I couldn’t put the book down once I got started.

The book was great like Kelly S.

I think the book Wake was a good book.
